A lovely tale about young apprentice George and his ever-so slightly bossy friend, Sybil and their fight to rescue a clutch of some very special eggs which have been stolen by the forces of evil. Aided and abetted by a pair of dragons, Harry Opacus and Charlie – that’s Charlie Haughtytoff the Third and Last to you – George and Sybil soon find themselves caught up in a race to save dragon-kind.
Shalbey Bellaman has created a loveable and endearing hero in George – ‘Not very brave, me!’ – and a girl character who’s more than capable of standing up for both of them when they’re in a fix. I loved the cast of supporting earth, air, fire and water dragons too. But most of all I loved the humour: sometimes gentle and self-deprecating as when George weighs up his own talents and finds them wanting; at other times rib-ticklingly funny. Great stuff!

A cowardly boy and dragons in distress and despictable baddies – Dragons in the Looking Glass has everything to keep an eight year + happy whether it is read to them or for an independent reader. As an ex-teacher I could see that there would be plenty of opportunities for a whole class project. More dragons please!

It’s a great book with an amazing plot – the only problem is it took a long time for me to work out which dragon is which one in the images. Could you clarify whether Harry is the smaller one or the larger one earlier? I literally only realised on page 200!

A delightful book full of endearing characters. My niece thought it was wonderful and so funny. It really is beautifully written and bound to enchant all children who read it. Well done to the author!

What a absolute delight of a read. My nine year old daughter absolutely loved reading this book as she has a fascination with dragons. She read it to her seven year old sister and they both loved the mystery behind the book. Beautifully written and my daughters would highly recommended to others x

Read this with my 8 year old grandson, he really loved it (it did help that there was a Charlie in it – that’s his name too). he liked the scary bits and the way the whole story developed throughout. We would recommend this to anyone who enjoys adventures and, of course, dragons.

My 10 year-old son loved this book. It’s very entertaining, with some funny place names which made him laugh. He really enjoyed the story.
